onefuckupfromdisaster: Right across the bridge where I live, in Somers Point New Jersey, there’s a bridal shop called “Here Comes The Bride.” The owner, Donna Saber, refused to sell this woman, Alix Genter, a wedding dress because she’s gay. After trying on six dresses, she finally…

Is the value of learning the learning process...
voiceofplanet: Sometimes I wish I had a synthetic mind that could download information faster than this inefficient organic brain. I could “read” books and databases in mere seconds. But would it be the same as reading it over time? Would that take away the scholarly understanding? These are questions to ponder as the barrier between man and machine dwindles.

Fred Karger on teenagers, journalism and his kind... →
gaywrites: I had the honor of interviewing openly gay Republican presidential candidate Fred Karger this weekend at the NLGJA national convention, talking about everything from politics to coming out. This is the final story I produced - what do you think? As promised, there will be an exclusive piece that NLGJA hasn’t seen coming up soon. I intend to publish most or all of my interview with...

riningear: openupyourworriedworld: -everybody who came into the grocery store i work at tonight um ok  There’s the actual possibility that people are gonna get stuck, even when the storm’s gone, due to flooding and such, and they’d rather be safe than sorry. It’s called reality, and reality is a bitch.  If you think that’s stupid, let me laugh while your house could be under a foot of...

Lesbian mom loses position as Boy Scouts volunteer →
gaywrites: When Denise Steele became a den leader for her son’s Boy Scout troop six years ago, she told the scoutmaster she was a lesbian. It was fine. She helped the troop win awards. All was well. Recently, an assistant scoutmaster learned Steele has a lesbian partner. He “kindly advised” that she be removed from her position and referred instead to Jesus Christ, to learn about redemption. ...

LGBT-friendly campuses growing in number →
gaywrites: A recent survey shows more and more college campuses are taking measures to be LGBT-friendly. Every year, Campus Pride compiles what’s called the LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index to determine how gay-friendly a college is. This year, 33 schools nationwide earned the top rating. That’s nearly double last year’s rate. Check the Advocate.com article above for the list of the...
